There's a big demand for natural buildings, information, as well as training and networking in the craft. This group is for professional networking as well as people completely new to the concept of natural building to get their feet wet. If you are at all interested in healthy building materials, sourced in an ethical and sane way, if you are interested in how communities can teach and share and work safely together to shelter themselves, if you are interested in harmony and craft over mass market production then join and learn about Natural building!
Natural building often implies cob or straw wall of a house with earthern plaster finishes. However, any non-toxic materials that are minimally processed and sourced naturally, sustainably and locally are fair game to consider. In Vancouver, this includes timber-frames and bamboo, but may exclude strawbales, as building straw is not commonly available in Vancouver. There are no hard and fast rules. Diverged waste stream materials are common, especially if they are non-toxic.
The role of community, the artist and organic process is much more significant in natural building than conventional construction. That's why we need a Meetup!
We've got a space! Kevin at A Small World Shop and Gallery is happy to allow us to use the gallery space upstairs where we've walls to project AV, room for a bunch o' folks, and on a night when there won't be drum classes going on downstairs.
I'll be bringing a presentation on Natural Building, including eye candy photos and relevant information, as well an important piece about process and community in natural building. Read more
