Nature Studies: A book club

Nature Studies: A book club.

The idea is to dovetail outer learning and adventuring with inside learning and adventuring. Getting outside is awesome and important for me and is almost always more fun with others. My inner intellectual/philosophical/spiritual journey is amazing and important to me as well; And, more fun with others. To this end, I am staring a "book club".

As a few friends of mine and I have being talking over the winter about how to have and share with others the inner journey and what to do, the perfect book came into my life. The title and subtitle are, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants. It's awesome, wonderful, Sublime! By female author, Robin Wall Kimmer.

I'm super excited to have others join me and I confidently expect this will lead to even greater outdoor skills, knowledge, adventuring and community. I live in a huge, 3 story community house in south philly with 5 others. Really great for hosting plus we know how to do fires really well in the back (We're lucky). At a minimum, great herbal tea will always be available.

    Hey all,

Great to see all your RSVPs and really looking forward to to having you in my home getting to meet so many new faces.

How are you coming along in the book? I am very slowly making my way through and my housemate whizzed right through.

Our discussion will be curiosity and question driven so I thought to suggest/request that everyone bring a question or two or five. Eight really good questions, one from each of us, would keep us going for hours. And, of course we will have a chance to share and collaborate on how you like the book or not, how it's effecting you, new thoughts, old thoughts, feelings, inspirations. Like that.

I was thinking of what ultimately makes a good book in this context and for our purposes. Well, a crucial aspect for me is, "Does the book actually get me outside and pay attention?"

    See you friday!
Double check to see that you are coming for sure cause there is a waiting list.
    And, bring questions.

I'm interested in this but can only make occasional Fridays. Will you be posting additional events as they occur so I can try to keep up? Thanks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
