Announcing a new Meetup for Nerd Fun - Boston!

What: Star Trek (Opening Day) @ AMC Loews - Boston Common

When: May 8,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Star Trek
AMC Loews Boston Common
Showtime: 7:10 pm ( Purchase tickets on )

It's Star Trek's Opening Day! For this 7:10 pm performance I was thinking of getting in line at 6:30 pm. It'll give us more time to socialize before the show. This is directed by J.J. Abrams, who wrote Alias, Lost, and Fringe. Can he tackle the Star Trek universe? ... as long as the crew doesn't start singing the old sea chanty "Row, Row, Row your Boat" I might be happy.

Where to meet:

T.J. Maher will be standing outside the movie theater by 6:15 pm. T.J. Maher is 5 foot 7, with blue eyes, short brown hair, a red MEETUP sign attached to his black messenger bag, and a "Hello My Name is T.J." nametag. We can get in line with the others at 6:30 pm. The things you do to grab seats on opening day of a movie...

About J. J. Abrams:

"Jeffrey Jacob 'J. J.' Abrams (born June 27, 1966) is an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning American film and television producer, writer, actor, composer, director, and founder of Bad Robot Productions.

" In 1998 he made his first foray into television with Felicity, which ran for four seasons on The WB Network, serving as the show's co-creator (with Matt Reeves) and executive producer. Under his production company, Bad Robot, Abrams created and executive-produced ABC's Alias and is co-creator (with Damon Lindelof) and executive producer of Lost. He also served as executive producer of What About Brian and Six Degrees, also on ABC. His work in Sci Fi has earned him recognition by TV Week as one of the most important creators in the genre today".

About this 11th Star Trek film:

"Star Trek is a 2009 science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk. It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek series, who are portrayed by a new cast. It explores the backstories of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto), before they unite aboard the USS Enterprise to combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from the future who threatens the United Federation of Planets. The film will be released in conventional theaters and some IMAX theaters on May 8, 2009, following a limited number of advanced screenings starting at 7pm the night before.

"Development of the film began in 2005 when Paramount Pictures contacted Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman for ideas to revive the franchise. The creative team contrasted Orci and Lindelof, who consider themselves "Trekkies", with casual fans like Abrams, who all aimed to create a film that would interest a general audience. They wanted to be faithful to Star Trek canon, but they also introduced elements of their favorite novels, modified continuity with the time travel storyline, and modernized the production design of the original show. Filming took place from November 2007 to April 2008 under intense secrecy. Midway through the shoot, Paramount chose to delay the release date from December 25, 2008 to May 8, 2009, believing the film could reach a wider audience".
