S1E8: Pirates of Ersatz by Murray Leinster

Celebrate Talk Like a Pirate month (a thing I totally just made up) and join us for a discussion of Pirates of Ersatz by Murray Leinster.

"An impulsive action, on his part? Hardly. Bron Hoddan went to the ship that landed on his native planet of Zan, the ship whose heartless crew was intent on lining up all his relatives for execution . . . and he stowed away.

Bron had planned it all long before, hoping to escape to the planet Walden, a place of wealth and peace where he might have a chance to prove himself as an electrical engineer, then find the beautiful wife of his dreams . . .

And compared with Zan, home of space pirates, Walden turns out to be a fine place indeed, where he quickly establishes himself with his brilliant work . . .

Until suddenly the police broke down his door!

Will Jenkins (1896-1975), writing as Murray Leinster, was called the Dean of Science Fiction, and was author of such popular novels as Timeslip! He won the Hugo award for 1956 novelette "Exploration Team." - from Barnes & Noble

As a reminder, members must update their RSVP 48 hours prior to the meetup, and no later than 24 hours. This is a courtesy both to me and the restaurant.

My apologies, but I won't be able to make it. Work is crazy and I have yet another meeting that night. I hope things will calm down in November or late October. I started to read the book and thought it was fun and light hearted, though I didn't get into it very deeply. I will finish it at some point. Interesting read and I'm going to do my darndest to make the next one!

I can give you a ride if you don't mind making a stop. I will be leaving Irvine at 5:30 Friday, running home and then heading over. If you wanted, I could drop you at Starbucks in the center next door while I run home to get ready.
