NetflixOSS Bootcamp

Join us for a deep dive on how to make best use of NetflixOSS components.  This will be a guided hands-on session, making a sample application from scratch, utilizing various NetflixOSS libraries, services and tools.

Due to a limited capacity and to ensure an in-depth developer discussion, we are looking for attendees to be NetflixOSS contributors or Cloud Prize participants. Please make a case for why you should be attending.

The second Cloud Prize Jonathan and I were working on - @NetflixOSS Cloud Platform on the IBM @SoftLayer Cloud + @RightScale (video, OSS enablement code, docs) blog. What does it take to move the Netflix cloud platform to another IaaS cloud? Find out by checking out the blog.

We just posted end to end AMI's for the Acme Air NetflixOSS sample including four difference application tier servers + Asgard + Eureka servers. We posted instructions on how to get this all running. I hope it bootstraps a bunch of related work and helps overall understanding of the platform:

FYI, Just updated AcmeAir/Netflix OSS on github to use the "production" Karyon/Governator/Guice based config as per the sample added to RSS-Recipes (KaryonGuiceContextListener). I also updated all the Netflix OSS components (ribbon - 0.2.0, hystrix -[masked], karyon -[masked]). Also, on this rev, we can now build not only Tomcat 7 but also WebSphere Liberty Profile lightweight application server working wars. We have worked on a Cassandra impl but haven't merged it in yet.

Jonathan and I recently went through all of the items we're considering working on in the AcmeAir/NetflixOSS project. If you guys are following along and want to have us teach you some of the other areas on our list, can you tell us which you'd think are most interesting to you?

Ruslan/Adrian, I wonder if you could comment on the areas you think that would have the most benefit to the community.

I enjoyed the meetup immensely. Is there any chance someone could post the eureka property talked about to speed up standalone startup? I took another look for it today and couldn't find it.

also confirmed that the self preservation mode flag you discussed fixes the "leases not expiring when I shoot servers". Sounds like I need to eventually get into a more realistic non single server configuration.

Thanks mark. Feel free to talk on the user group for the main project as you try to understand it and hit questions.

Awesome! This "bootcamp" provided a good overview of the released Git projects ( services ) and a great conversation with several developers who are using the components to put together test stacks and more.

System Architect in the cable industry. Just delivered a large subscriber portal using traditional datacenter approach. Need to do it all over again as a Cloud Architect this time. Looking at all of the stack, from Astyanax (used) to Zuul (like to).
