NMARC Sprint Race # 2

This will be an 8 hour Adventure Race held in the Cochiti Lake area.  Elements include mountain biking, paddling, trekking, rappelling.  Still working out all the new course design...stay tuned

Update 5/27/2013:

I have been talking to the permit people and the course is 90% set!

This year's course is different with some new challenges and terrain.  You should expect some pristine water with nice views (in or out of the boat....hint, hint).  Fun trekking (you might even see a beautiful canyon, bird's nesting, or a bobcat).  The mountain biking will challenge your mind as well as your body.  If you plan on doing the rappel you must have experience doing a rappel either in a class or by an experienced and qualified person who taught you.  Otherwise, I will have a bypass for those who can't or choose to bypass the rappel.  All maps and course instruction will be given out at the race meeting at 7:15am the morning of June 8.

You can bring your own boat or rent them at a separate cost from Mike at QuietWaterPaddling.  They are a group separate from NMARC but will drop off and pick up your boat.  He rents boats on a first come, first served basis.

More updates will be posted here as I get them.

race will be held at Cochiti Lake - Tetilla Peak boat ramp start at 7:30am.  Pre-Race meeting at 7:15am.  You will be plotting points. Good nav choices again, we nailed the hike and paddle in 4 hours but the mtb CPs were challenging, not in rough nav but the fine nav in which we had to scour the ground looking for low lying CPs

Hello All - Just wanted to let everyone know that the details for boat rentals for the Cochiti race are now up on our site - rate is same as last year ($30.00 per person). Because of the late posting, we're holding a block of boats for the NMARC folks through next Wednesday. Details here:

Thanks again to NMARC for all of your past and continued support!

Is there a gear list yet? This is the last weekend before the race to run around and buy stuff from

Also, are we plotting on the clock so do I need a UTM for the race or are the maps pre-plotted? I'm bringing a baby bib for the watermelon afterwards! Looking forward to the race!

All teammates must do all elements. You have only one team time. However, it is permissible to help (tow) your teammate

Steve--Brad and I have a conflict for next weekend's race, so I've changed our RSVP. If our schedules change, we'll try to jump back on board. Otherwise, we are sorry to miss it and we hope all goes well.

Any more details yet? Is there another area that has all the race info? Do we need a rappelling class prior? If so and we can't get to one, will there be a bypass?

    May 27, 2013

  • Steve

Angie: like last year, boats are provided by contacting Mike Hayes at Quiet Waters Paddling. He will deliver and pick up boats at the race start. You will need to book your boat separately with him. You are also welcome to bring your own boat as well.
