Mountain Bike Orienteering/Navigation Practice
Details
Update:
Hi folks, In order to recoup our costs for putting on this event(printing maps and buying supplies like compasses and UTMs) and since our insurance costs have increased for this year, we are going to make this a club member's only meetup. This means that you will need to pay our 2013 club dues which are $20(+$1 Paypal fee)/person if you have not paid 2013 dues yet. This is a one-time annual fee that goes towards paying off our event insurance costs with McKay insurance. You can either pay through the link(Pay Online) on the left or at the top or click the link below. We will not be able to collect cash or check the day of the event.
Pay with Paypal (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=Y844YE9AXX84A)
You do not need to create a Paypal account. Thanks for supporting the sport of adventure racing in New Mexico.
This hands-on clinic is designed to reinforce the basics of reading a compass, plotting points, setting a bearing, and finding check points on a mountain bike. An advanced course will be available to those who want to try it on their own. Advanced riders only will be allowed on the harder course - don't worry -I'll know who you are! You will not be able to do both courses since our volunteers will be starting to pick up the checkpoints at about 11 am.
The clinic will be starting from the parking lot before you get to the main white mesa parking area. PLEASE CARPOOL IF YOU CAN! PARKING AT THIS LOCATION IS VERY LIMITED! DO NOT park at the MAIN White Mesa parking lot!! Please get there about 7:45am. It will be about 1 hour drive from the intersection of I-25/Paseo del Norte(Albuquerque) and you will need about 10-15 minutes to get your bike off your rack and get your gear on. We will begin riding at 8am without you, if you're late.

The clinic will last for approximately four hours to noon. Bring enough water and food to last. Also, weather may change so bring proper clothing as you will be biking approximately 6 miles(beginner course) over a dirt trail system. The advanced course will be much, much longer(25-30 miles). Advanced course riders will have a staggered start(each rider will have 2-3 minute gap between starts). You must provide your own bike, helmet and whatever cycling gear you normally bring on a ride(ie tire repair kit, spare tube, bike pump, etc.)
I will have some compasses and UTM grid's to share. If you have a compass or can borrow one, please bring it. Also, bring a pencil to plot points. I will have maps for all to use.
Our annual dues are $20(+ $1 Paypal fee)
