NMARC Sprint Race #4 - Tijeras, NM

Race will start at 8am on Aug 28, 2010

REGISTER AT Cedro 2010 AR

Online Registration Closes:
Aug 26, 2010

UPDATE: Other outside maps are allowed for this race. Last year I gave out pre-plotted maps using "The Trails of Cedro Peak" map available from local bike shops like Two Wheel Drive. Also the forest service has a map that is titled "Motor Vehicle Use Map Sandia Ranger District" that could also be useful. It is free at motocross/atv shops and at the local ranger stations.
End Update....

The New Mexico Adventure Race Club is stoked to host the 2nd Annual Adventure Race at Cedro Peak near Tijeras, NM. The course will feature off-trail bushwacking on the hike/trek and mountain biking on singletrack and doubletrack. Some of the epic singletrack is so little used, you will navigate using cairns. As is Adventure Racing custom, the actual course will not be disclosed until race day.
This race will have an 8 hour cut off time. There will be a combination of mandatory and bonus checkpoints on the course. A good strategy will be the key to doing well in this race. Weather could be hot so plan on bringing plenty of fluids and electrolytes. Plan on pushing yourself past your limits and seeing some rarely seen views of the Manzanita Mountains and Sandia Crest.

There will be a remote bike drop-off where you will need to drop your bike/helmet/other bike stuff/extra food/water before you get to Cedro campground start/finish. Plan on leaving a jug of water per team at the remote bike area. I will send an email to registered folks on Aug 26th to let you know of the location. There will be a race volunteer there to watch over the gear.

Sorry Shara -- No Suduko this year!
Steve -- I have another stupid human trick in mind for ya....

Overall the race went well, the only slight hiccup was the wait at the slackline. I tried to spread the racers out a little bit but they all showed up at the Hwy 337 culvert waypoint within 20 minutes of one another. Weather was perfect, nice and cool as I predicted when I picked out the date 9 months ago. Way too much leftover party sub at the end, looks like I need to make the race a 12 hour event in order to increase your appetites. Hmmm, gets me thinking....

Very well organized. Loads of fun! Thanks Jeff!

The hike section was awesome, I even enjoyed looking for new coordinates at two of the checkpoints. The bike section was way to physically advanced for me and we had a very difficult time finding any of the points.

Nice race Jeff ! Good combination of hike and bike. Liked the special hike nav at CP's. Bike nav was very tough. I believe you raised the bar from your last year's race here.

Aarrgh- My legs hurt this morning. Great course Jeff! Definitely enough challenges for all levels. I Really thought I wouldn't make the time cut off (thanks Lawrence for the tow). Obviously this race course was a huge effort to set up. I can't thank Jeff enough for putting this race on.
