Update:Here are some gear items you can find at REI that will be useful for adventure races (https://www.meetup.com/New-Mexico-Adventure-Racing-Club-Meetup-Group/pages/Recommended_AR_gear_from_REI/)

This hands on clinic is designed to introduce the beginner navigator to the basics of reading a compass, plotting points, setting a bearing, and finding Check points.

The clinic will be held in Placitas, at the Silver Mine trail head. When you exit I-25 North Bound at the Placitas exit go East for approximately 2.3 miles. You will pass a strip shopping center on your left. Go approximately .4 miles past the center and turn right at the SECOND cattle guard. Follow that road for about two hundred yards - you will see my red Acadia.

Map for Parking (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=211540700972660181705.0004b6f89a16295dd9265&msa=0&ll=35.299768,-106.479342&spn=0.013257,0.01929)

The clinic will last for approximately four hours to noon. Bring enough water and food to last. Also, weather may change so bring warm clothing and trail shoes as you will be hiking approximately 3-4 miles over a course.

I will have some compasses and UTM grid's to share. If you have a compass or can borrow one bring it. Also, bring a pencil to plot points. I will have maps for all to use.

Cost is free but the group is limited to 35
