8 hour sprint adventure race at Cochiti Lake Recreation Area, Santa Fe National Forest and the adjacent Cochiti Pueblo. Elements planned are mountain biking, hiking/trekking and flat water paddling with navigation ala Steve's specialty and a rappel

UPDATE.....UPDATE...as of 6/24/12

Ok everyone. I have about 85% of the permitting process done!! I just tested out the Water and bike element this weekend and you're gonna love it! Lots of paddling and nav. Guaranteed to keep you cool and challenged. Expect the unexpected. It's going to be hot but I've got the antidote - water and lots of it ! No, you won't have to dive under water for a CP. In fact you won't even get your hair wet...but, be ready. Did somebody mention bike bushwack? yup, got it. Did I mention bike nav with a compass? yup, got it. AND, I will know by the end of June whether there will be a 60 foot rappell (couldn't get the permit for the 160 foot rappell this year...next year..).

Be sure to reserve your boat rental now. The race will start at the Tetilla Peak side of Cochiti Lake, just uphill of the boat ramp in the gravel area. Pre-race meeting at 7am. Race starts at 7:30am sharp.

UPDATE....UPDATE... as of 7/1/12

Permits done! There will also be a 60' Rappel with a beautiful view of the lake. For those who don't have harnesses, ATC, Helmets, Stone Age will provide. If you want to bring your own - no problem - Stone Age will have to approve them though. Trail shoes required for this element, no open toed shoes allowed. For those who wish to pass on the rappel I've got an equal time course without the rappel.

We may have summer rains, but I would plan on a hot day. You should be familar with both Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke symptoms for your teammates. See links below

UPDATE....UPDATE...as of 7/19/12

This will be your last update. Well, all is ready. Remember to be at the Tetilla Peak Boat ramp in time for a 7:00am race meeting. Look for our tent. I will explain the race and give you your maps and UTM plots, plus rules for the race. Race starts at 7:30am sharp. The Tetilla Peak area will be the transition for all parts of the race. If you plan on bringing your own boat bring it to the main transition area - you will see where all the boats are. I will have waivers for all team members to sign. You will need to sign one for NMARC, and two for Stone Age if you plan to do the rappel. If you plan to do the rappel, you must certify that you are knowledgable with harness, ATC or figure 8, and rappel techniques. I have another course instead of the rappel for those who do not want to do the rappel. It should be a fun and challenging course. If you want, bring your camera's to take pictures (probably want some kind of water proof container to hold it). Enjoy!

As is my tradition, I will have chilled watermelon at the finish for all...yum!!!
