Sunday Morning at Newington Green
Hosted by New Unity
Details
Sunday services draw upon many traditions. You are likely to hear poetry and other secular sources used as well as sacred writings from many of the world's religious traditions.
Inclusive language is used to avoid bias against women and others and to open to a wide range of beliefs - including those who do not believe in a traditional notion of God. Because of this inclusiveness, some might term the services 'spiritual but not religious.'
Services begin with the lighting of the chalice (http://www.new-unity.org/services/typical-order-of-service/chalice-lighting-words)- the unique symbol of Unitarianism - and include a unison affirmation (http://www.new-unity.org/sermons-online/unison-affirmation) which states New Unity's purpose for being. Later, members of the congregation are invited to light candles of joy and sorrow, sharing with words or in silence.
The morning service at Newington Green (http://www.new-unity.org/contact-us/find-us/newington-green) is more traditional, with seating in pews, longer blocks of spoken word, and often organ music. The service is followed by a social hour with tea, coffee, biscuits, and cake.
