MINDFUL MUSIC AND MEDITATION THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7
The Open Music Ensemble, a cooperative of professional acoustic music improvisers, is pleased to offer an evening of Music and Meditation on Saturday, September 7, from 7 to 9 PM at the New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th Street, 10th floor, buzzer #27. This program follows upon the talk offered by Thich Nhat Hanh that afternoon at the Beacon Theater.
First, following a period of silence, a short meditation instruction will be offered, then members of the audience are invited to place their attention on the sounds and silences created for them by the Ensemble while they meditate, or to engage in other contemplative practices of their choice. Special instructions for listening meditation may be offered during the program. Finally, after a period of silence, participants are invited to share and discuss their experiences. This program is suitable for meditators at all levels, from beginners to advanced students.
The Ensemble has presented this program since 2008 at the Shambhala Center, The Interdependence Project. The Jewish Community Center, the Tibet House, and the New York Insight Meditation Center. Roshi Joan Halifax, abbot of the Upaya Zen Center, has described it as “wonderful”. Many have found the program facilitates a deepening of their practice and an opportunity to experience mindfulness in a new way.
Musicians this evening will include June Ando on koto, Nicole DeVault on harp and voice, Philip Foster with spoken word, Nicholas Handahl on transverse flute, John Murchison on upright bass, and Ken Silverman on guitar and oud.
Admission $15 or exchange in help with distributing flyers the evening before or that afternoon. Please RSVP at www.meetup.com/musicandmeditation or email email@example.com if interested in exchange.
