  • Mar 27, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Aidan Feldman will host a workshop on using MongoDB with Ruby. Aidan will go over Ruby 1.9/2.0 and MongoDB 2.2/2.4

You should already have some familiarity with Ruby before coming attending this session.

We will cover

  • MongoDB
  • The MongoDB Ruby Driver
  • Mongoid (MongoDB and Ruby ODM)

At the end of this session you should feel more confident modeling your application with MongoDB in Ruby.

Super informative meetup! Thanks 10gen and Aiden!

PS Aiden: You mentioned there's a boilerplate where everything is filled in that we can check our answers against... could you provide the link again?

Unfortunately I had an unrelated faulty program preventing me from installing gems, and therefore loading the example, but fixed it now, and everything works. The mongo_wrapper.rb was the main thing I was after, and the full example is very helpful to understand how it all pieces together. Thanks Aiden, and thanks 10gen for the hot dogs!

I had a hell of a time installing ruby 1.9 with openssl support (openssl support is required for anyone who uses mongoid or mongomapper. And apparently, the MongodB doc is ahead of real life because the bson_ext driver has yet to be made compatible with mongoid and mongomapper. And for the life of me, I can't make sense of how to configure the Rails Gemfile to weed out Active Record. And yes, I had to install rvm to get the different versions ofd ruby to coexist. A short overview on available Open Source data vizualization tools. And I would appreciate a quick tutorial on the syntax of the CRUD instructions and the aggregation and map reduce commands in ruby before I get creamed at my next hackathon. I'llnote that I never had any kind of grief using pymongo, which is of course a python driver.
