As our events are getting larger and more elaborate, we could use a bit of extra help from any members who may be interested! Here are some ways to help out, if you are philosophically so inclined :-)
It never hurts to have someone (or two) bring a backup DVD to each event. If you have a Windows machine with a DVD burner, we can shoot you the files (dropbox-style). You'd be able to see the vids ahead of time, give us feedback, and of course keep the vids after - currently we do not make them available to members outside of each event. We'd reimburse you the cost of the DVDs of course.
(note: the videos for the "Numb" event - details below - have been in development for over two months and we are quite excited about them! A couple clips are funny, some are quite haunting - my personal favorite is the last segment, nothing more than scrolling text set to music, that took quite a while to get just right :-))
We could always use more printing, more copies! This would engender the adoration of the other organizers more than anything! And, you'd get a sneak peek at all of the questions ahead of time - as you may know, we pretty much keep the questions under lock-and-key throughout each event until the appropriate round :-)
General Event Greeting and Discussion Monitoring
We are quite picky about this role, as you'd be one of the 'faces' of each event. But if you have a talent for making new and old members feel welcome and/or bossing people around when they get too noisy, then let us know!
Like being a host at crowded and loud house parties? We have our next NY Phi house party on Friday and the event could use an extra party host or two. Duties may include helping greet people at the door, assisting with getting food and drinks situated as people arrive, or even grill time if you are into that. No more than two hours of hosting gets you admission without a need to bring $20 worth of food to the potluck, plus you get to be a party cop :-)
We love suggestions - all members are invited to contact us at any time. As you know, we book pretty far in advance. For instance, the theme for our Oct 30 event ("Gross") was suggested by Chloe a while back, and Scott had a lot of influence on our "Warm" and "Occupy" events. Ideas are always welcome!
Contact Dan and myself via [address removed] (we'll both get your e-mail, or contact either/both of us thru the Meetup links) if any of the above appeals to you or if you have other ideas. Thank you for your time!

A discussion of the world
and those weary of it.
"I was feeling sad.
Can't help looking back.
Highways flew by.
Run, run away.
No sense of time."
"I didn't eat for three days so I could be lovely."
"I don't like it here.
I'm tired of being afraid all the time.
I've decided not to stay.
I doubt they'll kick up any fuss."
"I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that
they will sing to me."
All of the above quotes are featured in their own video segments.
A couple are recognizable, a couple may be a little obscure.
How many of the above quotes can you identify (w/o Google)?

How to Attend
All members in good standing are welcome to RSVP and attend this event.
Due to the limited spots, anyone who has been a no-show for a past event must pay the $10 no-show fee online before RSVPing for another event. See our Attendance Policy for details.
Please bring $1 to toss into a beer pitcher to help cover NY Phi expenses - thank you!
A Cocktails & Conversations event combines food and drink, a casual Manhattan intellectual environment, and a social atmosphere for New Yorkers to get together, mingle, and discuss interesting topics.
Over the course of the evening, members gather in small groups for discussions. Between each discussion round, everyone socializes and has a chance to order food/drink. With a chance to join several groups throughout the event, attendees have a chance to meet many others while engaging in spirited debates in a highly social atmosphere.
