My Enlightenment Book Club is now an official Meetup group. I'd love it if some of my fellow Philosophers could drop by, if not each and every time, then whenever you're interested in what we're reading. Depending on what members want, we'll meet every month or so, probably in some cozy and quiet restaurant on the Lower East Side. To get on the mailing list and receive notices of upcoming meetings, please visit http://www.meetup.com....

Getting on this list does not obligate you in any way to actually come to any particular meeting. In addition to books, we read shorter works like essays, speeches, anthologies split up into two or more sessions, and sometimes works that our members have written -- even term papers and theses. Also, our scope is considerably wider than just the philosophical discoveries of the 18th-century. Whatever our members want to read is considered objectively and voted on democratically.

In addition to meeting intelligent New Yorkers interested in the history of ideas, you'll also meet Rachel Bartlett, an independent scholar from Berlin who is now living in the East Village and helping me with the club. Please remember that signing up does not obligate you in any way. To see a list of works we're considering, as well as those we've already read but might read again, please visit http://www.enlightenm....
