On April 14 in China's Qinghai Province, a 7.1 earthquake struck, killing at least 400 people and injuring tens of thousands. The earthquake also destroyed 90% of the homes in the county seat, Jeigu. The Committee of 100 created the Committee of 100 Qinghai Earthquake Relief Fund
to partner with local Chinese groups to deliver immediate relief to survivors, such as shelter, first aid, water and food.
A majority of buildings are destroyed and people are trying to find shelter in weather that is freezing and snowy, with high winds. Many of the affected communities are in rural and isolated areas, which will complicate logistics as supplies and aid are brought in. The hardest hit areas are 15 hours by road from the closest city, Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province. This is complicated by damage done to roads by the earthquake.
The Committee of 100 China Earthquake Relief Fund will provide direct assistance to local organizations in affected communities.
