Thanks again for a great run in the middle of the week.
Always have a headlamp running at night regardless of where you run. I'd turn around and went home if Mori was not with me.
Thanks Mori for running with me for the most part till you had to depart.

Just check Google pedometer, what I did probably saved .25 miles but seemed hillier than by the path though. But I can be wrong.

Thanks for organizing Matt, a memorable run in unforgiving conditions.

Matt, I wanted to thank you and the
fully international staff manning the superbly stocked Bodega Aid stations. Given their locations near the midpoints in the wilds of the north late at night they were mucho appreciated. Kudos to the volunteers.! However given that Yom Kippur is this Saturday perhaps for cultural sensitivity the fried pork rinds could have been less prominently displayed....
Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy and safe new year. And happy trails..

Don't forget to post your finishing times and I will compile a list

My Garmin time was 5:32:39 from the time I started running (late start) which might add up to 10min

      September 12, 2013

    • Eddie S.

I plodded my way to a 5:47:47... my slowest 50K ever! Also, I had a lot of fun, and good call on Ulysses.

Also post run beer option at Ulysses Public House,

    1 · September 9, 2013

    • Arnulfo F.

I think we should have a beer and chillax for a second every 10 miles.

      1 · September 11, 2013

    • PK

Fess up folks, who else stopped for a mid-run beer?

      September 12, 2013

Thanks for a great run, Mat! It was a beautiful night to share with wonderful people. I LOVED seeing the Towers of Light in the distance as I made my way to the finish. Looking forward to next year.

Ran well up to the north end. Made a wrong turn on Harlem river drive, ended up doubling back to dyckman. Finally picked up my head and realized I was going the wrong way. Made my way back to broadway, down through the park, and finally over to the water at 34th. The middle of this island is much hillier than the edges....anyway, got back at roughly 4:35 elapsed.

As usual great fun. We settled into a 5 person group around mile 6 and stayed together till mile 24 where we called it. What a great time and adventure--disappointed I didn't finish--just got to 26.4 by the time I reached my apt, but it was a bit warm. Super congrats to all finishers. Enjoying my beer in my apt and raising it to all the runners today.

Again, sorry I wont be there with everyone! I finished my 11 hour tribute run at 5pm... Oh how I now envy all of you, who will now run the night!! Good luck and Kudos to all!

Weather Update: Looks like the storms will remain well to the west of NYC through the night. Have fun!

    September 11, 2013

  • Joe D.

Not going to be able to make it unfortunately. Some lower back pain is somehow making me rethink running 30+ miles on the city streets tonight. Have fun everyone and thanks for organizing Mat!!

    September 11, 2013

  • Mat G.

Just going to post a couple things before i forget: If you can print out the step by step directions and bring them with you, I will try to bring some, but not enough for 60

Again, No Bag Check, bring what you need to run.

The weather is going to be hot and humid and we might get some Thunderstorms so be prepared. http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new-york-ny/10007/hourly-weather-forecast/349727?hour=16

Post your finishing times here or tweet them to me and we will attempt to put together peoples finishing times.

    See you all tomorrow

I was hoping my heel problem would be better by now, but it's not. I'm sad I will miss the run, but I'll mark the anniversary somehow. Have a good run tomorrow everyone. Thanks for organizing this Mat. I hope you will have it again next year.

    Matt,

The link for the meet up goes to A different location. Also I was downtown at the ferry terminal today as I had a meeting and did not find merchant Market Cafe and I walked the blocks by there. I am sure I will find the crew by the ferry terminal, but please fix the link. And thanks for the huge effort to pull this together. Fun times

When I ran by Twin Donut on my way to VC on Labor day, they were closed for renovations. The sign in the window said 3 weeks, but I have no idea how long that sign was up, so it might very well be open now.
Good luck to all on this run. I cannot make it due to a foot injury that has kept me from running anything longer than 10K recently.

    September 10, 2013

  • Arnulfo F.

Quick question, are we wearing anything at all that can distinguish each other? such as wearing a white shirt/tank top perhaps? Also, anyone running around 8:00/ 8:30 a mile? Cheers!

    September 10, 2013

    • Mat G.

Everyone will be dressed like they are running 31 miles, hydration packs, water bottles, running gear. We will be at the cafe right above the 1 train across from the bus stop called the Merchant Market.

      September 10, 2013

Will there be somewhere to leave a small bag?

    September 10, 2013

This morning me and Melissa Woods went out to Harlem to mark the part of the course on the roads. I decided to put the Harlem River Drive back in, it will be easier to navigate. Here is the updated map.

I'll be joining with a few members of my group (Woodside-Sunnyside Runners), and aiming for 10ish miles at about a 10 min/mile pace.

    1 · September 10, 2013

  • Michael K.

Sorry to say I'm out.. logistic that day just wont work for me. Instead I intend to pay tribute for 9/11 by doing a 11 hour run here on Long Island.

    1 · September 9, 2013

  • Joe D.

How are we doing pacing for this run? Will there be a range of speeds? I am hoping to run around 9 minute miles.

    September 9, 2013

    • Mat G.

Last couple years people ran it between 4 hours and 8 hours, so you'll find whose running the pace you want to run. Here are the times from last year.

      September 9, 2013

Going to end my run at around Marcus Garvey park (mile ~21) as I live a few blocks away. Will volunteer my place as a quick aid station (there's also a bodega on the corner of my block at Lenox Ave and 121) - just find me during the run and let me know. I'll be in the 10-11min pace range.

    September 9, 2013

  • John S.

    Any possibility of starting earlier?

    September 9, 2013

    • Mat G.

You can go earlier, the map is posted, but I little late to change time.

      September 9, 2013

  • Mat G.

Here is an updated map of the course. I will be sending email with more details to everyone soon. http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/286164149

    September 9, 2013

  • Anisha M.

I tried looking at the map but can't figure out where the run ends. I ultimately need to be back near port authority so I might end my run there

    September 8, 2013

    • Mat G.

Start, finish same spot. 1 loop of manhattan, but feel free to jump out at any point

      September 8, 2013

  • Hilary L.

I had the best time running this last year, it was completely unplanned and my first 50. I am sorry I will miss it this year.

    September 7, 2013

  • Frank W.

I'm changing my RSVP to no because I just don't feel that I am up to 50K at the pace that will keep me with the group, and I don't feel comfortable running 'alone' after dark. If I can train hard between now and 9/11 and feel I am up to the pace, I will try it.

    1 · August 17, 2013

    • Frank W.

I'll see what I feel like after the Labor Day in VC. I'm going to run 50-60K there.

      August 20, 2013

    • Tiger E.

Did you make 50K in VC Frank?

      September 6, 2013

  • Mat G.

Just to make sure everyone is clear. Self supported, bring what you need. No bag check, bring what you need to run and get home.

    September 5, 2013

  • cherie

Hi - I will likely only run some of it - focusing a lot on Hinson Lake a few weeks after. So I'll join early on and duck out at some point.

    September 5, 2013

  • Mat G.

Since we are starting in the evening, and the sun set is real nice overlooking the Hudson I think we will reverse directions this year and start running north on the west side and finish up on the east. Also there has been some news of attacks on bikers on the west side around 165th, so it might be safer to hit that section earlier. I will post any more changes as we get closer. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/09/03/warning-issued-to-bicyclists-in-nyc-gang-attacking-riders-along-the-hudson/

    September 5, 2013

    • George C.

I've run the path quite a bit during the dark hours and it's generally pretty safe and well lit, except for a few areas uptown.

      September 5, 2013

    • George C.

I think the key is traveling in pairs or larger groupings.

      September 5, 2013

  • Peter P

I would like to be involved with this, but will not run it myself since it is only 5 days after Wasatch. If you need to me crew or aid the runners in any way, let me know. :-)

    August 22, 2013

  • James L.

I'm certainly planning on 10-11 minutes a mile--with a few stops to regroup. This is a fun run celebrating being alive--let's keep it that way!

    2 · August 19, 2013

  • Paul A.

Mat, I'm not going to run, taking the month off. If you need me to crew, I will. I can set up an aid station on Dykeman if you're still running the course up to Twin Donut or somewhere else. Let me know.

    1 · August 19, 2013

    • Mat G.

That would be awesome, you need to rest after all the running you've been doing

      August 19, 2013

  • Peter P

It's a possibility that I'll come out for this, but only for single digit mileage. Coming off of Wasatch Front 100 a week earlier than this.

    August 14, 2013

  • Ray S.

    Out of town this year

    August 13, 2013

  • mark

May only run 20 or 25 miles

    August 13, 2013

  • Mat G.

We did a night run in may that started a little later. I would say a headlamp works, but not necessary. City pretty well lighted.

    August 13, 2013

  • Frank W.

I recommend wearing a headlamp, as it will provide better visibility when we encounter bikers on the pathways.
