This is a huge group with people of very diverse beer knowledge backgrounds and experience. We welcome all to join and enjoy the wonderfulness that is beer!
MISSION STATEMENT
The New York Beer Meetup (NYBM) aims to provide its members with a broad knowledge of the different types of beers available to them in the New York area. We also hope that by participating in our events your appreciation for beer will grow. Our events range from a casual getogether at bars and restaurants that work with us to more formal beer tasting events. We will also work to bring speakers to our events who can share their knowledge with us. It is not just about beer though. It is also about meeting people and having a good time.
While the NYBM wants to promote awareness and appreciation of the quality and variety of micro/macro craft brews available to its members we also encourage personal responsibility when consuming beer or other alcohol-containing beverages.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
We have decided to institute a new "2 no-show and you're out" policy. Now we aren’t going to beat you over the head with a wicker cane, but it does mean that if you RSVP YES to a meetup and do not show up two of those times, we will regretfully have to dismiss you from the group. We do have agreements with our venues about how many to expect in order to get our great discounts, so not showing up is a real bummer for us. This doesn’t put us in a good light with our venues. We do understand that things can come up at the last minute, but all we ask is for you to give the host of that meetup a call to inform them you will not be showing up. Whether it’s frogs falling from the sky, or you just got invited to a private showing of “Spice world”, it’s all good, just let us know. This, however, doesn’t mean you can change your RSVP to “No” at 6 when the meetup is at 7, and be fine. The host will unlikely be able to look at emails to see who has changed the RSVP. So if you are unsure, just call.
BE ACTIVE
From time to time we will be looking at anyone who has not logged in during the last 6 months, and will be dismissing those members from the group. We want our "community” to be active, and for the most part, for you to enjoy the great events we bring to you. An email was sent out recently informing all inactive members from the past 6 months to let them know they need to log in or else risk removal. Logging into meetup.com is not enough, you must visit the Beer Meetup page in order to be considered active in our group.
AO's
Becoming an AO: I would like the AO title to carry some expectations, like hosting an event at least 2x a year. Please only agree to become an AO if you have some time to help out the group.
Posting Meetup Events: From this point forward I ask that all AOs do not post a meetup on the calendar without first running it by the organizer. Events and their descriptions will be reviewed and approved before posting. This helps to maintain cohesion and efficiency within the group.
Posting notes on the calendar: AOs may post notes on the calendar without approval. Feel free to use this medium to let us know about beer events going on without committing yourself to hosting them. Many of us get our ideas for events from looking at notes placed on the calendar by others. I only ask that the event posted be beer related, otherwise it will be deleted.
