Greetings Boston Node.JS & Javascript Community!
Thanks to all of you that attended the February meetup this past Thursday - we had an amazing showing, one of the highest turnouts yet! I will be posting more pictures from that meetup soon, as well as the slides from the other speakers.
In the spirit of continuing our monthly meetings, I am announcing the March meetup to be held on the 22nd of March at a new location - Fitbit's Boston HQ at 1 Marina Park Drive (7th Floor). Fitbit will be providing pizza and beer for all attendees.

AWS Lambda
Recently Amazon came up with a brilliant new service which allows to run your code in cloud environment without worrying about infrastructure and with minimal costs, yes we are talking about "AWS Lambda service". Although it was recently launched, it has gained a lot of traction. Why is it gaining popularity? What parts of an application can make the best use of it? Why is Auto-scaling, high-availability, out of box deployment, pay-per-use are usually the terms associated with AWS.
Join us for an evening where we discuss answers to the above questions and some realistic problems we faced while developing a similar service.
Bios:
Rohit Kumar - Pursuing Masters in Computer Science at Northeastern University. Developing a compute service similar to "AWS lambda" for Massachusetts Open Cloud using Openstack. After working for 3 years developing softwares I decided to move to Boston for Masters degree. Find interest in Virtualization, machine learning. Javascript is my another love.
Rajul Kumar - Masters in Computer Science at Northeastern University. Currently developing a service similar to AWS Lambda for MOC using OpenStack. Before this, was working in business process automation and system integration and developing solutions. Find interest in PAAS solutions. Like to implement in Java and Python. Learning Javascript as a new gateway.

He is focused on automating development workflows that allow companies to achieve more. When he isn’t practicing his software craft James can be found running through the woods, growing hops, or hiking with his daughter.

From Backbone to React: pure render with dirty models
Introducing new technologies in existing product is never easy. It's especially true when you deal with a large Backbone application, new technology is React, and you still have to deliver new features every month. Taking Volicon's experience as an example, we will discuss an approach which actually makes possible such a transition. We will talk about architectural differences and similarities between Backbone and React, how React can solve inherent problems of Backbone Views, and how to take full benefit of unidirectional data flow while keeping mutable OO models in data layer.
Bio: Vlad Balin is web front-end architect at Volicon, the leading provider of enterprise media intelligence solutions. He started building single-page JS application in 2010, having background in functional programming and asynchronous systems development in C++. At his current position in Volicon, Vlad is focused on making development of large-scale SPAs easier and safer. He is an author of experimental model framework NestedTypes ( https://github.com/Volicon/NestedTypes ), and number of React-related open-source projects.
