Node.js Hands On Lab: South Bay Intro to Embedded Node.js

Agenda:

* (sorry no food in the library, so try to eat before)

* brief intro to Node.js on ARM (hw options, architectures, software, os/distros)

* bring up a device (I will have a handful of different options pre-configured for "easy" bringup)

* discuss some project ideas to hack on (we will discuss some new ground to break)

* wrap up

Note: This is a South Bay event.  I'll be posting some SF events for July and August.  Plan on at least 40 minutes if you are heading down from SF (take 280 to optimize your drive time).

    @Electric Imps, fantastic demos. I will be in touch to arrange some follow up. Please come visit the group again. I felt like we were touring Q's research lab when you were showing use the demo. Really blew my mind.

    Wow! Demo by Electric Imp blew my mind. Still buzzing over it. And while there wasn't a node.js on the device (impossible), they came up with a very clever solution for a reasonable VM on the device, and use Node in the backend. Wonderful stuff. Glad to see a few new faces at the event.

    I'm set up with a table and access to some power in the Group Study Room near the teen books.

    Bringing an instance of 'luvit' (lua awesomeness) on one of the armv7 boxes. Hopefully the build finishes in time ;p . For whatever reason the upstream v8 always gets broken, so couldn't easily get modern node.js to compile on this particular box.

    I should have wireless ap set up so we can login remotely to some of the devices we get working.

    space limit is artificial. It is a public location, but I'm guessing I will only be able to grab a table to hold myself. Feel free to show up even if the meetup gets full.

    @Adam, thanks! I'd discussed with one of the other folks the date change but forgot to update. Yes, it's tonight, Tuesday.

    Note to folks coming tonight, please pack a bag with a few useful things if you have them: a laptop, ethernet cable, usb wifi dongle, SD card, usb flash drive, serial cable, etc. I'll have some gadgets on hand, but of course, I can't bring everything I have in my lab, so we'll do the best we can. Mac users may want to load the FTDI VCP drivers if you want to connect via JTAG: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers...

    Folks, just posted the event for Southbay. Apologies for the delay in planning. Summer months are a bit more challenging to find time.
