Screenplay writing

I was wondering if there is a forum here for me to discuss some questions about writing a screenplay. I have been given a freelance assignment from someone who wants me not only to edit his screenplay but to collaborate and add to it as I wish. The problem is what he has given me is a combination screenplay and novel. There is so much background info about the character and in the midst of the screenplay dialogue he wants to add very detailed passages about what the character is thinking, what happened in his past etc. He even describes histories of what minor players have done. For example, the main character notices two women at a restaurant arguing and disturbing the other patrons. They are escorted out of the restaurant. Then he gives details on what they were fighting about and how it all started and so on. In this case I think that should be completely deleted as it has no part in the plot or theme of the script. But there are other parts which help the reader know the character better but I am not sure how to fit it in. So, if you can offer any suggestions I would appreciate it. Or, if there is another forum here for discussion that would be great too. Thanks, Randy
