Odione State Park (Portsmouth NH)

Odiorne offers one of the most beautiful natural settings along New Hampshire's coastline. Within the 135-acre seaside park with several walking trails.

The Walk:

Odiorne Point is the largest undeveloped stretch of shore on New Hampshire's eighteen mile coast. Located three miles south of Portsmouth on Route 1A in Rye.

While the park is an ideal location for seaside outdoor recreation, the property is also renowned for its diverse natural history. Seven distinct natural habitats can be visited in a leisurely walk. Although the spectacular rocky shore is the most popular, the woodlands, uplands, salt marsh, freshwater and salt ponds, and sandy beach combine to create one of the region's most diverse nature walks.

We will walk around the area for a two hours. This is a short walk bring a snack and we will socialize on the jetty at the midpoint of the walk. Dinner and Drinks:

We will then head into nearby downtown Portsmouth and go to the Gas Light Grille for food and drinks.

1:30 pm: The leaders will be at meeting place to introduce people. This is a great time to get to know everyone

2:00 pm: Official Start time of hike. Please check the comment section for updates on where to find us (especially if you are a little late)

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before hand because we want to get started on time. This is a great time to get to know everyone.

Other Meetup Groups:

I will be inviting one other meetup group.

There are a few people in the habit of no-showing and it hurts these events! Don't be that person! Only RSVP if you can go and update your RSVP (don't wait until the day of the event) if you can't make it. Your fellow group members and organizers are counting on you to show up.

• Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Dressing in layers works best. Wear appropriate footwear for hiking.

• Please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines and gear you may need as well. These outings are free but you are responsible to have everything you need.

Take exit 5 on I-95 North or South to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Take Route 1 By-Pass South to Beaches continue south to Route 1. Turn left onto Elwyn Road. At the roundabout, go half way around and turn onto Route 1A South. Continue for 1.8 miles and look for the main entrance with the green shack.

Can be confusing if not familiar with our roads. Road name changes multiple times. It can be, and always will be 1A. Also Pioneer from the mini traffic circle (Elwyn/Pioneer-1A), then turns into Ocean Blvd over a small bridge. Continue past bridge a short way and on left is main gate. If coming from South along the ocean (Ocean Blvd), on right. road frontage of park is wooded. Hope this helps and have not confused folks more :-)

Please please do this again soon--I can't come this weekend but would love to discover a new place. This sounds like a terrific day. Sad face.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
