September NTDUG Fly-In - The Crop Duster Event!

If you build it, they will come!  Join us for a Fly-In at a private 200+ acre corn field!  Site survey has been completed!

See the photo album for September to see some of the snap shots of the area.

What we have here is a very nice cushy corn field with nothing growing yet.  To get there you can go around to the backside of the Medical Center and you will find a red/white barrier.  Go around the barrier and park alongside the road.  We will have the Ground Control Station setup so you won't miss us.  This site is best suited for short take off or hand launched vehicles.  There is a highway about a half mile away so everyone will have to pay attention to their controls.

Other than that, it promises to be a nice COOOOL fly in!  Come on down, bring some snacks and your kiddies.  We hope to have a lot of fun and maybe we can all grab some dinner or lunch together somewhere local.

Cya there!

This event is rain or shine. If our venue is a wash-out, for weather or politics, an alert will be announced/posted. If our site selection committee has been successful, we'll have a high-ceiling indoor location on standby. If that happens, apologies in advance to our fixed wing flyers. If we get enough weather-resistant flyers, we can consider using both locations.

The site selection committee has yet to meet on this schedule. Please send me a message to add a site to the list. If possible, please provide a description of the field, a google/bing map link, and a point of contact for that location (if there is one.)

Please send me a message if you would like to serve on the site selection committee. The committee will meet briefly, via WebEx, twice a month to consider and select locations for the group.

Keep it safe, I look forward to seeing you (and all of your fingers) at the flight line.

For those of you who did the Quad build.
I found the arms where the motors attach to be the most easily broken part. Some people use tennis balls for feet. What I found that worked good for me is a 3-4" piece of swim tube (swim noodle).
They come in all kinds of colors, are lighter than tennis balls and really make a good cushion when you crash resulting in less broken arms for me. I tried to learn to fly it before I got my simulator and I sucked at it!!!! LOST IT.... (Still looking for it.) Got the simulator in the mail the next day. :-)) Patience, Lord, BUT HURRY!!!

If you want to come to the site survey, be on Frisco Road in McKinney between 6:45 and 7:15, I'll be in a silver Prius parked on the side of the road. The field is within eyesight of the Highway. If you get stuck, call me[masked]

I'm brand new to drones. I recently purchased AR.Drone and love it. I want to investigate looking into a drone with longer range and flight times. I'm also interested in learning more about autonomous flight.

I live just down the road from the meet-up location. Would it be inappropriate to launch my copter from home and just have it meet me there?
Lol Just kidding, I'll be lucky to have it operational by then. Got some new ESCs on order. Hopefully, they'll be here in time!

Your in the right place, bring your hexa to the July 13th fly in and we can get you sorted out on the spot. Point of contact would be Romeo for both the hexa trouble and the makerspace. Email him and get it setup.

I'm looking for some help tweaking my 3DR hexa. New to copters but I want to figure it all out. Would this be a time to find some help with the copter? We're building a new makerspace at my university in Abilene, as well. I'd love to check yours out.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
