North Texas Drupal September Meetup

Summer is over so it's time to get back to our Drupal meetups. Please try to make it to this one, as we're going to use it as a gauge on the interest of keeping this meetup going, as well as discussing a fall/winter North Texas DrupalCamp. The Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC) has loaned us their new Addison TreeHouse (http://www.addisontreehouse.com/) facility - you really have to come check it out.

We have two great and unique talks this month. Kyle Taylor (http://getlevelten.com/about-us/kyle-taylor) will be showing us how to Bootstrap-on-the-Fly: Integrating Bootstrap + Color + LESS and Randall Knutson (http://www.phase2technology.com/author/rknutson/) will discuss Static Drupal – Taking the Pain out of Drupal Hosting.

Bootstrap is an incredible framework for building great looking sites quickly, and thanks to an incredible group of maintainers, it is no different for Drupal. One of the biggest challenges as an agency the amount of time it takes to build a new theme from scratch for each client, when in reality, they really aren’t all that different from each other. By making generic themes, we can integrate the core Color module with the LESS preprocessor module with our Bootstrap theme to create flexible and custom Bootstrap themes on the fly.

Randall and his team were recently challenged at Phase2 to find a way to use the power of Drupal as a CMS but serve the site as generated static pages. It was an interesting idea and they decided to see if we could make it work. They started out by building a proof of concept module that would take a Drupal site and render it as plain HTML pages with all the associated assets such as JS, CSS and images. Randall will discuss this process as well as the related module they contributed to drupal.org
