Gardening with Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms

Sign up for this upcoming learning event: Mark Jones of Sharondale Farm (Charlottesville, VA area) travels up here Saturday, March 28 to give an informative class (talk/discussion) followed by demonstration and hands-on mushroom-starting.

Learn how to grow several different types of mushrooms using low-tech, low-cost methods in your garden.

Discussion will cover:

• biology and ecology of fungi;

• using mushrooms for personal and ecological health;

• methods for cultivating shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, reishi, and other mushrooms in wood, straw, and compost.

Watch and try your hand at inoculating a tree log for mushroom cultivation.

Bring clean, 100% cotton cast-off clothing: a pair of jeans or a couple of t-shirts. You'll take these home in bag inoculated with oyster mushroom culture.

Please bring a brown bag lunch; drinks provided.
