(Frick Road is the first light south of the intersection of T C Jester and Veterans Memorial, the entrance to Houston National Cemetery. Doss Park is approximately three quarters of a mile west of Veterans Memorial.)
Under the auspices of the Activity Chairman, the club has one scheduled outside activity each month. These activities will be posted to the MEETUP events calendar and both PAID and ONLINE members are welcome to participate. Participation by either requires that you RSVP prior to the activity and keep your RSVP status current. If you RSVP Yes and find that you will not be able to attend the activity be sure to change your RSVP to No.
In addition to the activities scheduled by the Activity Chairman, any member, either PAID or ONLINE, may request permission from the Activity Chairman to host an activity. The person requesting the permission or someone appointed by that person will lead the activity. All other aspect of the activity will be handled the same as scheduled monthly activities and will require RSVP. Please keep in mind that any activity posted to the MEETUP calendar MUST be approved by the Activity Chairman before it is posted. If you have an interest in an activity but do not wish to host the activity, then post to the IDEAS tab.
In addition to the official monthly activity there we be additional unofficial photoshoots or classes posted as there are volunteers to lead the event. If you have ideas for photoshoots or photo shoots that you would like to lead please contact the organizer, Gary Woodard, directly. I will coordinate with the activities chairperson. If the activity is approved I will seek to locate someone to lead the activity.
PORTFOLIO REVIEW (name change as of 10/19/2011 from Portfolio Challenge)
In October of each year, NWHPC sponsors what is known as a Portfolio Review for the PAID members. Those members that wish to participate assemble a portfolio of 8 to 15 prints on a theme of their choosing. It is required that the prints be mounted and presented in a professional manner as though they were being presented to a gallery for consideration.
The club assembles a group of reviewers that have considerable knowledge in the photographic fields. The reviewers will come from professional photographers, photographic educators, gallery owners, graphic designers, photographic editors. Because the reviewers come from a variety of areas of expertise the portfolios will be not be examined from a single perspective. Each participant will received a minimum of three reviews with a possibility for a forth. The feedback received on each portfolio will be from a different point of view, a different photographic expertise, making this an extremely beneficial opportunity to have your photographic work critiqued.
Such portfolio critiques normally would cost in the hundreds of dollars--with NWHPC it is available for a $25 membership fee. For the serious photographer it is the best $25 you will ever spend.
