See all- Saturday Brunch @ Bread & ButterfliesBread and Butterflies, Nottingham
Saturday morning brunch at Bread and Butterflies, the vegan cafe in Lady Bay. Having been there once to try it I can say it's a very high standard, and they're obviously using high quality ingredients. There are quite a few options on the menu, mostly over £7 but a few smaller things for less like the cob, pancakes or teacakes, and you can have either breakfast or lunch items all day. Besides the main menus there are cakes and quite a range of teas and soft drinks.
It is quite small however with limited seating so I can only book for so many. I've booked for 4 (and without allowing guests) but they can extend to 6 if there's enough call. Please only sign up if you can definitely make it, and of course no-shows will be noted. There are gluten-free (and nut-free and soya-free) options but they can't guarantee an allergen-free environment.
The 11c bus drops you a few yards away, and there is some parking on Trent Boulevard itself. If this event is successful I'll aim to have one such a visit a month.
- Crocus Cafe evening mealThe Crocus Cafe, Nottingham
Let's visit the Crocus Cafe for its all-vegan weekend evening menu. It has a different regional cuisine theme each week, which they decide on the Tuesday so we won't know what it is till then. The menu is based on 'small plates' each of which costs £5 to £7. You can have a decent meal with two plates or go for more, perhaps sharing with others. They also have desserts and lots of types of drinks: hot, soft, alcoholic, smoothies etc. Last orders are at 9pm and closing time at 10.
The cafe is a community one, based on volunteer labour, but subsidised and with a professional chef who creates imaginative vegan versions of traditional dishes. You can find out more on the website, Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter. Since we will be putting in orders together on one menu sheet per table it will be important to identify who's ordering and paying for what.
Space is limited so please only RSVP if you know you can make it, and change it if you can no longer do so. No-shows will be marked as such.
- Pub meal - Golden FleeceThe Golden Fleece, Nottingham
The next pub to try for vegan grub is the Golden Fleece, which went fully vegan last year and has since been taken over by its new food providers, the Prickly Pear people. Their new menu is now up (see in Photos below), they say it has "the BEST of our classics and an exciting selection of new fresh FULLY VEGAN goodness". Let's try it out. Incidentally all the drinks are vegan too!
I'm picking the Tuesday because it seems one of the quieter days of the week.
I'll be looking for somewhere to try in June... I have some ideas but let me know if you know any decent local pubs or restaurants with a decent vegan and vegetarian menu.
