Zero to Node: A Case Study of Deploying Node in Production

Hi NovaNode,

We are rescheduling the meetup to Wednesday, November 7th. It should be a good one. SpanishDict recently deployed a new text-to-speech service powered byNode. This service can generate audio files on the fly for arbitrary Spanish and English texts with rapid response times. The presentation will walk through the design, development, testing, monitoring, and deployment process for the new application. We will cover topics like how to structure an Express app, testing and debugging, learning to think in streams and pipes, writing a Chef cookbook to deploy to AWS, and monitoring the application for high performance. The lead engineer on the project, William Bert, will also talk about his experiences transitioning from a Python background to Node and some of the key insights he had about writing in Node while developing the application.

Here's an overview of the event:

6:30-7:00 - Meet. Mingle. Eat. Pizza and drinks will be served.

7:00-7:45 - Presentation

7:45-8:00 - Q&A and Announcements

8:00 onward - Head downstairs to Spider Kelly's for some drinks

The event will be held at the headquarters of

If you aren't already, be sure to follow the NovaNode Twitter account: @NovaNode

We look forward to seeing you at the meetup!

Hello! I'll be driving from Reston. Is there parking in front of your building? Or should I take metro instead?

Hi Paul -- easiest is metro (as the office is visible from the entrance). There is some paid street parking outside the office, but is sometimes contentious. There are some parking lots nearby (see:), with the closest being the one at: 3101 Wilson Blvd
