Greetings, Novel Lovers. Yesterday, several members expressed that they’re either having trouble getting involved in Wolf Hall, our next book, or have decided not to read it and to skip the next meeting. I’m having trouble with it myself. I’ve read 1/10, which I admit isn’t much, but I’m confused by the multitude of characters and the historical background that I lack, and nothing so far propels me forward. We discussed whether to change our next choice. I was reluctant because the defenders of the book (come forward, please!) weren’t there, and I know that many of you don’t like a change after you’ve bought the book.
Help me know what to do about this! I’m also posting this on our discussion board here: http://www.meetup.com/Novel-Lovers-of-Sebastopol/messages/boards/thread/21782762/#[masked] – that’s a good place to post your comment so that everyone who is interested can read it.
A couple of other things:
If you’re a member, but you never come to meetings and you doubt you will, there will be no hard feelings if you leave the group. (Go to http://www.meetup.com/Novel-Lovers-of-Sebastopol/. Under the "My profile" drop-down menu you should see "leave this group.") I have no problem with you staying in the group if you hope to attend a meeting when the time and book are right, but it does seem strange that we have 66 members and we’ve never met more than half of you!
Ellen has graciously agreed to host our April 22 meeting (email me privately after you’ve RSVPed if you need her address), but she absolutely cannot host May 20. If you can seat 12-15 people and you’re willing to open your home to us, please let me know.
Thank you, Novel Lovers, for making this book club a highlight of the month for me!
