Startup Bootcamp - Part 1

  • May 2, 2012 · 6:30 PM

Team, we have an awesome panel setup for Bootcamp, including:

Chris Hawkins (SignNow)

Thomas Knoll (LaunchRock, Seesmic, Zappos, User Voice)

John Jersin (Google, Zintin)

Sean Crafts (Mavenlink, InQuira)

Melinda Kim (TrustVillage)

Also, Cisco is expanding the room capacity so we have 40 more slots open for the session. Cheers.

Shervin

STARTUP BOOTCAMP (Pt. 1)
Are you an entrepreneur with aspirations to do a startup? Are you getting a lot of confirmation from friends and family perhaps? Do you frequently compare your idea or product to low hanging fruit?

Well...say no more, we have just the venue for you and it’s called Startup Bootcamp.

Why Bootcamp?

Because startups are NOT sexy -- contrary to popular belief -- they’re actually A LOT of hard work. It requires both creativity and discipline to do well. If you don’t believe me, then come to this venue and hear it from the people who’ve tried and failed; as well as those who’ve tried and succeeded.

Tentative Agenda:
I. Doing a startup isn’t “a job”, it’s crazy, unrelenting passion.
In this first session, we will address all the pains of being an entrepreneur. We’ll have real live speakers, including tormented boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives who’ve been through the battle, and still persistently come back for more. We encourage you to bring your significant other, so they can prepare for the journey ahead.

a. Panel discussion (15 mins)
b. Audience Q&A (15 mins total)
c. Practical Applications (10 mins)

II.  How to go about/continue making the biggest mistake of your life -- Startup 101
In this session, we’ll have speakers who are at different stages in their startup career speaking about everything from their "idea stage" experiences, all the way to successfully exiting the business.

a. Panel discussion (15 mins)
b. Audience Q&A (15 mins total)

c. Practical Applications (10 mins)

More details to follow. If you show up, be prepared to get the ugly/glorious truth regarding startups. No suger-coating. No insulting your intelligence. Just straight talk from folks who've been through the grind!

A big shout to our sponsors at Cisco and NetApp for helping us produce this event.

Cheers.

It was a very good experience. It was different from what I expected, I was hoping to get an equivalent of startup for dummies maybe. Nervelessness, this meeting gave me a different perspective which I didn't even know I need.

Hi guys stay in touch with me and this meetup page, as we start to brew up the details for Part 2! For all those who were trying to watch the U stream, I apologize -- as i forgot to check with Cisco if they had readily accessible Wi-fi...bad assumption. We'll be 100% ready for the next event, with live stream and some adult beverages. Thanks all!

And without hearing from other 'startup partners' its hard for them to anticipate how arduous the journey will be.

Good advice. Their role is commonly undervalued or simply forgotten, yet is so vital.

    1 · April 12, 2012

  • Shervin T.

    Team,

We have a few open spots. If you are considering doing a startup, I would highly suggest bringing your significant other to the event as well. The first panel will include "startup partners", so you get to see first hand what type of impact it will have on your loved ones. Cheers.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
