"6-10pm" While the content of this meeting sounds like it could be okay, the leaders of OCAndroid never approved this meeting, nor were even asked if it could take place , so this meeting was never officially announced, and may not have actually taken place (don't know yet). That's a sad thing, especially when all it would have taken is 2 minutes for the event host to just suggest it properly. So I put listing here not to announce this (and so this was NOT emailed out to members), but only to have the standard Meetup place to record an event which did (or may have) happened, as Meetup requires that place (this event listing) be entered BEFORE the event starts (can't be added afterwards), so I'm putting it here now, with what I know at this point of it, having given as much time as I could to hear some reply back on the event until finally I reached Meetup's listing-time cutoff. For everyone to know, it's super-easy for any member to suggest a new meeting or event via the standard Meetup mechanism (just go to our home page and click "Suggest [a new ]Meetup"), and we'd love members to do this. But for some reason, hopefully due to some innocent oversight (but even still I can't reach him to find out), brand-new ordinary member http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/member/5/b/a/5/thumb_18503461.jpeg Randy Sturgeon (https://www.meetup.com/OCAndroid/members/20028551/)

  • somehow decided to have this meeting of our group without asking nor getting approval from any leaders
  • and announced in about 6 spots on our website, and direct private messages to members, all where it shouldn't have been announced.
  • Yet he just joined Meetup & our group 1 month ago and has never given us a business card nor even phone # that I have record of.
  • Still, even a day before this his meeting, indeed even at this very moment, I've tried to contact him 3x (though both Meetup and his email addresses, all the contacts I have for him) but he's not getting back to me nor us on this. But he has, just a day ago, been messaging out more announcements of this meeting (as see the one below). Naturally, this is not the way to do business with any Meetup group. While it's outstanding to suggest & even host relevant meetings & events, please don't do what was done here. Indeed this meeting would have been gratefully approved if only if it were suggested by the standard & excellent & time-tested Meetup methods, and yes even if that had been done late after 2 reminders I sent. Though I don't even know for sure this the host or anyone will be there, being unable to even reach the host for his own meeting,
I am still going to attend this meeting (a 44min drive for me each way) to see what is going on and report back here on this page.
