Today I invite Rudy Chavarria Jr the Founder & CEO of College Web Media:
Rudy Chavarria, Jr. is the founder and CEO of College Web Media. His work in the entertainment industry goes back to the 1980s, when he worked in and around Hollywood, most notably as a runner for A&M Records. He started his first company, Rude Records, in 1989, signing and promoting independent bands on his company’s label. Promoting largely and successfully to the college demographic, Chavarria eventually focused exclusively on promotions, specializing in the college demographic. He started Rude College Promotions, which came to be called American AMP (Advertising, Marketing & Promotions), expanding his scope of services to include promoting film as well as music.
Since then, he has gone on to promote many highly-acclaimed films and recordings, including films The Passion of the Christ, Rocky Balboa, The Chronicles of Narnia, United 93, The Puffy Chair, Lassie and Oldboy and recording by Bob Marley, Jaco Pastorius.
In 2007, Chavarria started College Web Magazine, an audio/video based website. Part news magazine, part social network, early CWM featured a combination of postings by college students and interviews and event coverage provided in-house. In 2008, Chavarria filmed a college band going through its paces and posted it to the CWM website, calling it Breaking the College Band. Encouraged after picking up sponsorship from Ford Motor Company, Breaking the College Band became the cornerstone of College Web Productions, which produces entertainment and educational programming and continues the tradition of interviews and event coverage.
Recognizing the potential to rally a large online student contingent behind a cause, in 2010
Chavarria launched the non-profit organization College vs Cancer, dedicated to funding college
for students financially burdened due to cancer.
In the summer of 2010, all three endeavors – College Web Magazine, College Web Productions and College vs Cancer – were consolidated under the umbrella of College Web Media, which oversees the operations of these subsidiaries.
In his spare time, Chavarria enjoys going to the gym, skateboarding, movies and playing guitar. He is married and lives in Southern California.
All you need is a positive mind, the desire to challenge the status quo and willpower. If you have an internet device or any other technology you wish to share with the group, feel free to bring it, although we can use the equipment at the store.
Apologies in advance as we will have to cap this group at 30 due to the space we have available. To be fair RSVP will be on first come first serve basis. Please keep your RSVP current so others that maybe on the waiting list can still make it. Thanks
