Calling all designers, developers, and visionaries... we need your help building Apps From the Future!

Smart networks—like the new 1Gbps grid in Chattanooga, Tennessee—can transform public life, removing barriers and limits on the flow of information. But because these networks are so new, there are few apps that make full use of this potential.

At this design jam, co-located with the GENI Engineering Conference and facilitated by the Mozilla Foundation, we will imagine and prototype apps that make the power of next-gen networks real and visible for more people.

Come prepared with your grand ideas about how to make the internet work better in areas like health IT, distance education, clean energy and more.

All GEC attendees are welcome to participate in the combined event. LA-area web developers, designers and civic leaders are also invited to register for free.

We looking forward to seeing you @ 1-9 pm Thursday March 15th. Snacks, beverages and other nourishment will be served.

For more information, contact [address removed].

About GENI ==========

GENI (the Global Environment for Network Innovations) is a network innovation laboratory: the perfect place to build apps from the future. When you're developing on GENI, you can melt away your assumptions about the internet as it exists today.

Say you have an idea about how to make people happier, or healthier, or more well informed—but that idea is too big for today's internet.

Transfer speeds are too slow, latency is too high, or your users’ computers aren’t fast enough. Or, maybe you need the network to work differently. Whatever the reason, the naysayers will tell you that it can't be built.

Now imagine that none of these limitations apply. Information can travel as fast as it needs to. "Loading" and "latency" are things thing of the past. And as an app developer, you can program the entire network, from the clients and servers to all the middle boxes in between.

About the Mozilla Ignite Apps Challenge ====================================

Through the Ignite Apps Challenge (http://mozillaignite.org), NSF and Mozilla want to help people build things that show off the cool opportunities that GENI presents, especially in national priority areas like health IT, distance education, clean energy and public safety. Over the course of the year, NSF and Mozilla are offering $500k in funding and valuable mentorship to help get these apps off the ground.

Compelling designs from this session could evolve into submissions to the challenge, with seed money and mentorship available to help get them off the ground.
