We are committed to establishing a community-based walking group to increase physical activity for the young and young at heart.  Regular exercise will assist in reducing health related illness and conditions, while building a cohesive community.  Many residents of Okaloosa County realize the need for regular physical activity, but quite often lack the motivation to begin any type of program on an individual basis.   We want to help you, help yourself.

 

Our goal is to recruit 200 people of all ages to walk a combined 10,000 miles, lose 1000 lbs and reduce cholersterol levels and blood pressure of participants.  The initial program will run from August 2011 through January 2012.  We plan to meet once per month as a mass group and each team should meet 2 -3 times weekly to walk together.  Teamwork and motivating your team members is a key aspect in maintaining a regular exercise pattern.

 

Starting on Jul 30th, in conjunction with the No Child without Health Care Fair, we will begin the initial team sign up.  The health fair will be held at the Southside Elementary School in Crestview on south Ferdon Blvd, starting at 9:00 am.  This is a free event and doctors and support staff will be on board to provide free school and sports physicals for anyone 18 years old and younger.

 

You can easily keep up with developments of our program by joining our meet up group.  Everyone is welcome to participant.  Make it a family affair, an office challenge, or a way to meet new people.  If you don't it for any other reason, at least, Do it For the Health of It!!!!
