WordPress Meetup - January 27 7 PM

  • Jan 27, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Oklahoma Christian University

We are excited to start back up with our monthly WordPress meetups. A lot of WordPress news has happened since we last met in October, including the release of 3.8, a really beautiful interface.

Just to remind everyone, we meet the last Monday of each month at 7 PM over at Oklahoma Christian. (Details below.)

This month we're going to hear from Daniel Kline, a freelance web developer. His topic is "Web Usability and Accessibility".

Our other talk will focus on the new features of WordPress 3.8--maybe there are some features we'll highlight you haven't found yet.

Bring your WordPress questions and we will try to answer them.

Cookies or bars - haven't decided which--but they will be good! Hope to see you next Monday.

Remember our Facebook page. We'd love for anyone to post an interesting how-to or link to something WordPress related. Have a question? Ask it over there and hopefully, it'll get answered. It's a handy place to post things inbetween meetups.

Oklahoma Christian is on the north side of Memorial Road between Boulevard/Martin Luther King & Bryant. After turning into the entrance, proceed to the first stop sign, turn left (west). You'll be on the (only) road that circles the campus and you'll be going to the back of the campus. So when you get to the next stop sign, you'll be at the back of the campus and headed east. Go straight

(about a block), after stopping and you'll see the Prince Engineering Building. This is a 2-story building on the hill - the most northern building on campus. Park in the back of the building and you'll see our WordPress sign on the glass door. The meeting room is upstairs - come on up, we have lots of signs posted.

If you'd rather come in the back way, you can take Boulevard/Martin L King to Smiling Hill Blvd (this is about 1/2 mi. north of Memorial Rd.

Turn east on Smiling Hill and go about 1/2 mile and you'll see the iron gate (always open), that leads into OC. Turn right (south) onto the campus. Go till you get to the first stop sign and turn left (east). You'll see the Prince Engineering Building on the hill - the 2-story building. Park in the back of the building and look for the WP sign on the glass.

This was a great Meetup. The open flow of information and answers to any and all questions was a breath of fresh air. Most of the time when us newbies approach professionals of this quality the professionals intentionally talked to over our heads. Everyone at the meeting was very friendly and went out of their way to answer all questions, be it from newbie or fellow professional in a way that the asker could understand their options. I look forward to next months meeting.

Always good information and creative presentations. The discussion after the program was very helpful too.

Has anyone heard about a vulnerability within WP for "Link Building" within the HTML code? Someone mentioned it. No transfer anywhere just a search engine link to increase a count (for $$ ?) for someone. This is probably not an accurate description. Just repeating a comment.

I'm not aware of any open vulnerabilities in WordPress, especially with regard to any of the HTML it produces. I suspect this article is what you've heard about: http://www.uklinkolog..., but it was written as a guide to tell website owners about potential problems with their site in an effort to get a link back.

I am training for a marathon and have a stretching class at this time. It should only go for a month, so I should make it to the next one.
