The Global Perspective on Surveillance: International Voices on Snowden

The Snowden revelations have reverberated throughout the world, sparking an international debate on state power and what privacy and freedom of expression means in the digital age.

The impact of the Snowden disclosures is global. While we view the debate from our domestic perspective, the impact has been significant for those who defend human rights and fight surveillance in emerging democracies.

Join Tom Watson MP and the DontSpyOnUs coalition to hear first hand testimony from experts and human rights defenders on how governments, politicians and civil society are viewed on this from outside the Five Eyes.

We will be joined by:

Vivian Newman Pont - Colombia - Dejusticia

Claudio Ruiz - Chile - ONG Derechos Digitale

Nighat Dad - Pakistan - Digital Rights Foundation

Hisham Almiraat - Morocco - Global Voices

When: 9 April, 6.30pm.

Host: Tom Watson MP

Ed Snowden just dropped another bomb: the NSA has been spying on the EU and various other UN Institutions too.

I think perhaps a little more thought should be given to the actual presentation of the event. Our hardy panellists were handicapped by not having the advantage of a public address system, consequently they were difficult to hear at the rear of the room (more than one was softly spoken) and by standing when they were speaking would also have allowed their voices to project more effectively.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
