Historic New Almaden Tour

In this rare and wonderful treat, Open Space has partnered with Santa Clara County Parks to offer a behind the scenes tour of New Almaden. Where, you might ask? Why none other than the very place that is the largest quicksilver (mercury) mine in the United States! And it's all right here in your back yard. Come and take the tour of the museum and hear about the history. That starts at 12 noon. After, you'll have time for a quick lunch (bring a sack lunch with you), and then there will be a walk around the historic neighborhood hosted by our very own New Almaden former Mayor, Kitty Monahan and our docent, Sparky Harlan, an avid advocate for all things parks and nature, who also happens to be a descendant of New Almaden history herself! Come walk through this historic neighborhood and hear all about the haunted house, and tales of daring and adventure. See the difference between then and now for preserving nature. These are two of the liveliest speakers you will ever meet. It promises to be a fun day!
