This is a competition that will occur over 2 days in January. It is open to all ages and skill levels. Players will compete for spots among four divisions and for medals within their respective divisions. All competitors in the main tournament will receive World Pinball Player Rankings points.
In addition to the main tournament, we will be conducting a kids tournament open to children 12 and under. Children will compete for spots in 2 divisions and for medals in their respective divisions.
We will also be conducting a team "split-flipper" tournament, which is a format designed to maximize the casual, fun, and social aspects of pinball. Teams will again be competing for medals.
Tournament Rules Summary
Main tournament:
Qualifying round: Competitors will play one game on each of 10 dedicated tournament machines. Points will be awarded for each machine in the following fashion:
Player with the highest score- 100pts
Player with the second-highest score- 99pts
Player with the third-highest score- 98pts
and so on.....
Points will be cumulative across the 10 machines such that the maximum score possible would be 10x100= 1000
Finals:
After the qualifying round, players will be grouped into A,B,C,and D divisions based on their performance in the qualifying round.
The top 12 qualifiers will be grouped in the A division. The A division final will be a group elimination bracket. The top 4 qualifiers will receive a first round bye. For round 1, positions 5-12 will be seeded into 2 groups of 4 players. Each group will play four 4-player games randomly chosen from the qualifying bank. Players will receive a score after each game according to their finishing position in that game. 1st place will receive 7pts, 2nd- 5pts, 3rd- 3pts, 4th- 1pt. After the 4 games are played, the top two cumulative points earners (after any tiebreakers) will advance to the second round. The second round will be conducted similarly, after which, the final four will advance to play another 4-game round which will determine the final finishing order.
The remaining qualifiers will be divided evenly with the top 1/3 to the B division, middle 1/3 to C division, and bottom 1/3 to D division.
The B,C, and D division finals will each consist of a 4-strike group knockout challenge. Players will be assigned to groups of 3 or 4 and will play a 3 or 4-player game on a machine randomly selected from other machines in the Arcade. After each game, the bottom 2 players in each group will receive a strike. After all the groups have finished their games, the players will be reshuffled and play another game. Once a player receives their 4th strike, that player is eliminated. Play will continue until only one player remains with less than 4 strikes. That player will be the winner of that division.
Kid's Tournament:
This tournament will begin with a 2 hour qualifying round. Players will play 4 dedicated machines. Machines may each be played more than once as time permits. Only the player's top score on each machine will be counted towards the qualifying round point total. Scoring will be identical to the main tournament qualifier: 1st- 100pts. 2nd- 99pts, etc., and cumulative across the 4 machines. After the qualifying period, players will be grouped evenly into 3 finals divisions. The top 1/3 to the A division, middle 1/3 to B division, and bottom 1/3 to C division. The final for each division will consist of one head-to-head game picked from the bank of 4. The top qualifier will select the game for the A division, while the top qualifying position in B and C divisions will select from the remaining available games. Finishing order will be determined by the comparative scores in the final game.
Team Split-Flipper tournament:
Teams of two players will face-off against other teams in a 4 strike group knockout challenge. One player from a team will control one flipper button, while their teammate controls the other flipper button. Players will be divided into groups of 3 or 4 teams on randomly selected machines. After each game, the bottom 2 teams in each group will receive a strike. After all the groups have finished their games, the teams will be reshuffled and play another game. Once a team receives their 4th strike, that team is eliminated. Play will continue until only one team remains with less than 4 strikes, thus winning the tournament.
