This group was intended to be geared towards business owners trying to increase their visibility, and beginning internet marketers, and I never did much with it. The East Portland Chamber even sponsored for a while, but we didn't have many events at all, and for that I'm sorry.

Reading the details below, I realize that I'm not ready to give up though, so I'll leave them here for now...

As the search industry has grown, I'm finding that brand new people are often intimidated at other events, and are hesitant to ask the simple questions.

My goal is to help educate members on the basic fundamentals of internet marketing, and ultimately, to get you out of this Meetup group and into a more advanced group!

The two groups are separate for a reason.

Do you already know what a title tag and description tag are?

Do you know what "local search" means?

Do you already understand "personalized search"?

Do you know what backlinking means?

Do you already use and feel comfortable with basic Google Analytics?

Are You familiar with "anchor text"?

    Are you already using WordPress?

If you answered yes to a few of those questions, then this might not be the right group for you..

That said,

Who will run the meetings?

Scott Hendison will plan and present material at the meetings, but there will be plenty of interactivity too.

Scott is the CEO of Search Commander, Inc. and founder of SEO Automatic tools. He's a founding board member ofSEMpdx, speaks regularly at national search marketing conferences like Pubcon, and has over 10 years of experience in search.

Who Should Come to Meetings?

Business owners and key employees, and those just starting out in internet marketing, or "search engine optimization". There are some "need to know basics" and this is where you can learn them.

What Will Meetings Be About?

Here's a tentative list of presentation ideas for 2012:

Local Search 101 - The brick & mortar difference - scheduled for Feb 16, 2012

    SEO 101 - The Basics -

Google Accounts 101 - Establish Your own, and get started

    Google Analytics 101

    Google Webmaster Tools 101

    Google Adwords 101

    Backlinks & Citations 101

    WordPress SEO 101

    Efficiency 101

How Much Will Meetings Cost?

Whenever possible they'll be free, but if we want a private room with seating, screen, projector, etc. then we may have to shell out cash.  If we do, then we'll charge a fee to at least cover costs.

Where Will We Meet?

My criteria for location is to be able to easily accommodate 15+ people, and have food and beverages (including alcohol) available for purchase.

Bill

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
