International Open Data Day

The open data community in Ottawa has grown significantly over the past several years. To continue to support the growing community, Open Data Ottawa has partnered with the University of Ottawa Library, the Treasury Board Secretariat, and other engaged community members to offer a space for those interested in collaborating on and learning about open data. Thanks to the generous contribution of Industry Canada, the weekend-long event will be at the Industry Canada Service Lab, located in the C.D. Howe Building at 235 Queen Street.

The location will function as a multi-purpose space. Part of the space at the Innovation Lab will be reserved for folks participating in CODE (https://www.canadianopendataexperience.ca/). If you would like to use this space to work on your project for the CODE competition, there is a separate registration form on the CODE website (https://www.canadianopendataexperience.ca/competition/hubs/ottawa). Note that our HUB will be open for you to use starting on Friday night, while general festivities start on Saturday morning.

The remainder of the space is available for those who wish to come and learn about open data, benefit from the support of mentors and experts, and participate in mini workshops that will be scheduled throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Never worked with open data before? Not sure what it means to “hack”? This is the perfect opportunity to learn how you can manipulate data to create infographics, maps, and even applications. Mentors will be on hand to show you how to find interesting open data and shape it into whatever you’d like it to be.

Whether you’d like to spend the whole weekend, a whole day, or just a few hours, join us at the Service Lab in downtown Ottawa to celebrate #opendataday!

Official festivities kick off at exactly 9am on Saturday morning, with workshops starting at 10am. Mentors will be on hand on from 9-6 on Saturday and from approximately 11-5 on Sunday.

La communauté des données ouvertes d’Ottawa a beaucoup grandi ces dernières années. Pour continuer de soutenir cette communauté en plein développement, Données ouvertes Ottawa travaille en collaboration avec la Bibliothèque de l’Université d’Ottawa, le Secrétariat du Conseil du Trésor et d’autres membres actifs de la communauté pour offrir un espace à ceux qui s’intéressent aux données ouvertes. Le centre Données ouvertes Ottawa fonctionnera comme un espace polyvalent. Notez que l’espace sera à votre disposition du vendredi soir à dimanche soir.

Le reste de l’espace sera réservé à ceux qui souhaiteraient en apprendre davantage sur les données ouvertes, bénéficier de l’assistance des mentors et des experts, et participer aux ateliers qui seront offerts toute la journée du samedi.

Vous n’avez jamais utilisé de données ouvertes ? Vous ne savez pas ce que veut dire le verbe « hacker » ? Voici l’occasion rêvée d’apprendre à manipuler des données pour créer des images, des cartes et même des applications. Des mentors sur place vous montreront comment trouver et traiter des données ouvertes intéressantes pour les transformer à votre guise.

Rejoignez-nous toute la fin de semaine, toute une journée ou quelques heures, du 20 au 22 février au Laboratoire, dans le centre-ville d’Ottawa, pour célébrer la journée internationale des données ouvertes!
