Everyone has needs in this world. When our needs are not met we react by word and/or deed and often with regret. Some just shut down and do nothing. Most people practice a language style that diagnoses others or situations. We blame. We criticize. We judge. We grow frustrated because we aren’t connecting. We may not even know how we feel or what our needs are. We end up hurting those we love often unintentionally. This meet up group was created to provide an informal opportunity for people to practice NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION also known as NVC, or COMPASSIONATE COMMUNICATION developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg. We will learn to observe rather than diagnose or judge another’s words/actions. We will learn to practice identifying feelings (emotions, sensations) and what met or unmet needs are the source of those feelings. Finally, we will learn to make requests that will enrich life. Jim Allen and Linda Myers are the facilitators of this meet up group and welcome others to come join them and practice empathetic listening while using real life situations to help demonstrate NVC skills. Everyone is welcome regardless of their experience level in NVC. This method of communication is a powerful way to facilitate rich and meaningful connections within the work place and in relationships. Rachelle Lamb expresses it this way: “Learning NVC helps us to see and celebrate the beauty in others even at times when they may be expressing messages that are hard for us to hear”. Come and join us as we practice and make OPEN HEARTED COMMUNICATION our life giving language.
