Journal Club: Transcriptome and Proteome of a Light-Dark Bacterial Cell Cycle

Details

Let's read some real science!

We will review the paper which describes the gene and protein expression of the Prochlorococcus bacteria triggered by daily dark-light cycle.

It is the smallest known photosynthetic bacteria which is responsible for producing a substantial part of oxygen in the atmosphere. And it is not really clear how the dark-light cycle governs its gene expression. It does not have enough genes for the normal circadian rhythm.

The agenda for the journal club:

• Short overview of the papers to understand the scope of the paper. So it is clear what is important and what is not.

• Go over the paper figure by figure. So everyone understand what exactly was done and how it was done.

• Free form discussion.

Previous reading of the paper is not required but much advised. It will help to do not get lost.

A real scientist from the lab that produced that paper is going to join us.
