I sort of came up with the idea that the term was missing from the vocabulary of the global development scene in 2007 when I was working at the World Bank. Tried pitching it there without success (=too early). Same for my native government of Finland (=shameful for Finland). Ended up moving to Haiti to work hands on with OpenStreetMap and the Humanitarian OSM Team. .. Just do it resonated more at the point than trying to push for policy change. Soon moving on to Nicaragua and getting back to the broader discussion, hopefully.
Hope to see how the Open Development idea could be pushed from an idea to reality. How the term could be defined to begin with.
At least I can help in understanding Open Geo in general and OpenStreetMap in specific. That is IMO an important piece in actually making global development Open. Where projects are and what are the ground realities are a crucial piece in many parts of the development work. And if it's not Open I don't think that it counts.
The future of Global/Economic/etc Development must be Open if there is to be a future for development work.
