This weekly study group's goal is to bring together fans of biology, science, open source data engineering... to learn new things in a collaborative environment. No formal lessons or lectures. But we'll be around to answer questions and help each other.

THIS WEEK: * Rosalind Labs Kick-Off *

Derren will facilitate a group activity around
a Rosalind track of problem called Bioinformatics Armory (http://rosalind.info/problems/list-view/?location=bioinformatics-armory)

• There will be a 20 minutes Introduction to important Biology concepts and the relevant online tools, with an example of their use.

• This will be followed by a 40 minutes at-your-own pace lab where you get to practice and strengthen your skills

We'll start with the following themes:

  1. Introduction Problem : “Counting DNA Nucleotides”
  2. Four Commonly Used Protein Databases
  3. World's Biggest Genetic Database - GENBANK
