Details

NEW date NEW location - this meetup will be EPIC!

We are excited to announce that beginning with the October session the Austin Openstack Meetup is moving to the Rackspace facility off I-35 north between Park Plaza Dr. and Rundberg Ln.

Our Oct. Meetup will give you EVERYTHING and more you need to know about Openstack Neutron networking - beginner or advanced - this session will give you valuable details and best practices as we deep dive on Neutron end-to-end!

First up, our co-sponsor IBM will do an Introduction/Overview of Neutron (with lots of pictures!). No one can say that networking is easy, especially after having worked to set up Neutron. In this session Manuel Silveyra will provide an overview of Neutron, explain what makes it the best alternative, and using lots of pictures, explain what it does.

Manuel is a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect with the IBM Open Technologies team. Manuel has a strong focus on OpenStack, Docker, and Cloud Foundry, with a long history working with Linux and the Cloud. Manuel is a regular attendee and contributor to the Austin Openstack meetup.

Next up is Sean Roberts from Akanda will dive in deeper, focusing on advanced services such as Routing and Load Balancing.

We will then drill down into typical service provider network designs and the specific technologies in use such as Linuxbridge. We will discuss the Neutron Advanced Services driver model and how it can be useful to Service Providers (and Enterprises) based on our team's experience powering DreamCompute’s networking capabilities using Akanda.

We will review Akanda, an open source suite of software, services, orchestration, and tools for providing L3+ services in OpenStack that builds on top of Linux and OpenStack Neutron. Finally, we will provide an update on the latest discussions heading into Tokyo.

Sean Roberts is the VP Development at Akanda where he leads research and development, enhancing Akanda’s innovative open source platform and engaging and contributing to the OpenStack community. Roberts has more than 20 years of industry experience, most recently with VMware, where he was a senior R&D manager within the Network Security Business Unit. Roberts has been deeply involved with OpenStack for over three years, and has served on its board of directors for the past two years.
