DevStack Saturday Jan 17 Harmony Lib Fort Collins

We will do an "out of the box" install and manipulation of DevStack. DevStack is an all-in-one developer-specific installation of OpenStack. This Meetup is primarily for people who have never done a DevStack but all are welcome and experienced folks will be welcome to assist less experienced.

This meetup has some prereqs:

• Laptop computer with wifi

• Familiarity with git (or firehose level learning)

• A laptop with VirtualBox, Vmware, libvirt, Cloud Account or other virtual machine. Alternately, a physical Ubuntu machine running Trusty you don't mind installing a boatload of packages on.

• Install your virtualization software before you arrive. The network bandwidth in the library will be somewhat limiting. If you have a phone with tethering, you can also use that and it may be more performant.

• Within the virtualization software, you will want to run Ubuntu Trusty. Here's a good link to help get you started with virtualbox. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox

• NOTE: The laptop can actually be running Windows. The virtual machine will be running Ubuntu (or possibly some other Linux if you want to get crazy.)

• You want to give the VM as many resources as possible (as ultimately it will be running many/all of the components of OpenStack) so give it multiple (virtual) CPUs and lots of RAM and maybe 8GB or more of disk space.

• Goals

• Get an openstack running

• Understand how DevStack can be used for debug and regression testing

• Additional familiarity with upstream workflows

• Get a specific release/branch/review of DevStack going

• Approach

• I'll have both a physical machine available doing a "native" install of DevStack on Ubuntu

• I'll have a cloud account on one of the cloud providers doing a cloud install of DevStack on Ubuntu

• I'll have VirtualBox (or equivalent) to show a VM install of Ubuntu and DevStack.

• I'll have at least two projectors and possibly a third to project all of this on different walls/screens.
