Return of the Ceph Lords

Details

Call me Ishmael.

Or better yet, call me Brent.

Just don’t call me “Shirley”.

I’m here to tell you an epic tale about an eight-legged sea monster, and how it drove a Captain to a blinding obsession with revenge.

Kidding. I’ll save that whopper of a story for a recap on the blog. I’m actually here to update you on the upcoming Meetup at the end of May.

The theme of this Meetup is how OpenStack works with Ceph (http://ceph.com/), the open source, massively scalable, distributed file system. Ceph is significant because it can be used as a block storage solution for OpenStack Compute, and it also offers an object storage alternative to Swift.

Ceph is currently used in production in the Piston Enterprise OS (http://www.pistoncloud.com/openstack-cloud-software/)™, it has been integrated into the Linux kernel, and was recently included in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

We are very lucky to have Christopher MacGown (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/christopher-macgown/24/401/42a), Co-founder & CTO of Piston Cloud Computing, Inc., who will present on their enterprise-grade OpenStack cloud solution that is currently available. The Piston Enterprise OS was one of the first OpenStack-based products released into the wild.

Josh Durgin, Software Engineer from Inktank (http://www.inktank.com/), will present on Ceph. Inktank is the brand-spanking-new professional services and support company that has deep expertise on the Ceph project.

AT&T has graciously offered their auditorium downtown and will host this event. They are sponsoring the event with a delicious array of hors d’oeuvres that will be catered by Patina Restaurant Group (http://www.patinagroup.com/). An assortment of sodas, beer and wine will be available to quench your thirst. I would like to especially thank Cathy Kubik at AT&T for handling the logistics and catering. The menu can be found below.

Caprese grilled cheese - basil mozzarella, Roma tomato Two bruschetta - tapenade and tomato/basil Crostini of seared beef, arugula, Manchego, tapenade Salmon terrine layered with vegetables and piquillo pepper sauce

IMPORTANT: Parking can be found across the street, but unfortunately the ticket cannot be validated. Security should know about the event. Simply mention the OpenStack LA Meetup.
