January: Storage and Network with CloudFounders and Midokura

Details

January is a jam-packed month for us! We've got speakers from CloudFounders and Midokura to give us an dive into what's next with OpenStack's storage and networking, and Nulogy (https://nulogy.com/)'s wonderful Toronto office generously hosting us:

OpenStack storage projects and an overview of Open vStorage

Abstract:
During this session we will discuss the current status of OpenStack storage projects and give an overview of the new features in Open vStorage 2.0. Open vStorage (http://twitter.com/OpenvStorage) is an open-source project with a single focus: offer the fastest Virtual Machine storage for OpenStack. With Open vStorage we have built technology which has the features of high-end SANs (performance, zero-copy snapshots, thin cloning) but is also scale-out and low-cost, like object storage solutions. Open vStorage combines the best of both worlds. With Open vStorage you can seamlessly scale your storage by adding more disks.

Wim Provoost (@wimpers_be (https://twitter.com/wimpers_be)):
Wim Provoost is product manager at CloudFounders for the open-source project Open vStorage. He has been with the company since its inception in 2007. He holds a master degree in computer science engineering and a master degree in economics.

CloudFounders (@CloudFounders (http://twitter.com/@CloudFounders)):
CloudFounders brings together leading experts from the world of cloud, datacenter and IT services. The team includes people instrumental in the development of clouds and datacenters at Level 3, PSInet, and Dedigate part of Terremark/Verizon. The team has also brought successful datacenter technology to the market with Q-Layer`s Private Virtual Datacenter and VirtualBox, both now part of Oracle and Datacenter Technologies PureDisk technology which was acquired by Symantec.

So what’s the deal with Neutron?

Abstract:
A look at the project’s progression from Nova-Network to Neutron and Beyond. We will recall the early stages of Nova-Networking and how the functionality evolved to what is Neutron networking today. We will discuss previous default Neutron plugin implementation issues and current solutions with the now open-source SDN solution, MidoNet.

Cynthia Thomas (@techcet (http://twitter.com/@techcet)):
Cynthia is a member of the Systems Engineering team at Midokura. She enjoys highlighting the emerging technologies in network virtualization as application needs evolve. Her background in networking hardware spans from Telco, Data Center, and Campus/Enterprise solutions.

Midokura (@midokura (http://twitter.com/@midokura)):
Midokura’s vision is to provide a more flexible, customizable and adaptable network infrastructure for companies worldwide through network virtualization. It is Midokura’s mission to unleash the full power of an organization’s networks – while reducing physical network and management costs – by adding Midokura’s virtualization software layer onto enterprise, data center and government machines, in turn scaling to hundreds of thousands of virtual ports from a single physical network.
