#Editathon - King County Address Import Training Day 1

We started with importing addresses for Seattle, now we are going to finish up the remainder of King County. This two day event will teach you how to edit using JOSM and how to import addresses into OSM. Some of the topics we will cover are:

• How to configure JOSM

• Exploring available backgrounds

• How to add points of interest in JOSM

• Working with layers in JOSM

• Merging new data with existing data

• Validating

You will need to bring a laptop for this event. Please preinstall JOSM, by following the instructions at http://josm.openstreetmap.de/. If you have trouble installing JOSM, help will be available at the event.

Address data has been broken down into small chunks for easy importing. We do need help setting up the OSM Tasking Manager. If interested, please leave a comment to this meetup.

We do have a Unfortunately this was largest room that would accommodate our group. If you are not sure if you can attend, please change your status to not attending. If too many people show up, we can set up outside the conference room as Michael suggested.

Ok! I'll set mine to not attending. I'll go hang in the main library. Will read over the doc in advance and make whiney noises if I don't geddit. Does making an opening give Tim the slot automatically? If not -- Tim, grab it! :D

If for some reason space does not open up on the first day will the training be reviewed on day 2?

    January 9, 2014

    • Clifford S.

Yes - We will duplicate the training on the second day.

Clifford -- Still need help with Tasking Manager setup?

Pat - thanks for the offer. I got it figured out. I'm looking for people to test it out. It is a pretty slick script.

About the room limit...some of us can go sit in the main library and beaver away, leaving room for Tim, etc. Also, HOGjam is on the same weekend, and that may siphon off some folks, who may still be undecided about which they're going to.

Cliff, I noticed that the sign up list shows "1 want a spot". Is there some sort of attendance limit set on the meet up ( because of room size or whatever)? If there is, maybe we can come up with some strategy for breakout groups of whatever.

The first version of the King County Import wiki is now available. Check out http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/King_County_Import. Please feel free to edit to correct any and all of my mistakes.
