Mapping-what-you-know Party

Let's keep the momentum going from our successful birthday party! Since we didn't have time to do hands-on editing there, this one we'd like to focus on using the iD editor. No experience necessary. Bring your laptops!

In the spirit of mapping-what-you-know, it would help to take a look at the OSM map beforehand around where you live and hang out to see what's there and what's missing. (e.g. supermarkets and shops, restaurants and bars). Jotting down names and locations on paper is really helpful!

Also, Clifford is planning a Seattle bid for the 2015 State-of-the-Map US Conference. With the number of active FOSS/GIS people in this area, we could pull this off. We'll be discussing it, so bring your ideas!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the whole mapping party fun! I would love to join this event although I don't have much experience working on osm.. I've used juno trimble and garmin before for research purposes. Can I just show up to this?

The short answer is yes. We plan to do a workshop on how to use OSM's iD editor to map what you know. If you have a gps unit, bring it along and we can talk about how to integrate your gps traces into OSM trails and highways. Bring along a laptop if you have it to practice editing and uploading gps traces.

I just invited the Seattle Transit Hikers meetup. Several of them use or are interested in OSM. I wonder if we could do a joint trail mapping expedition. FYI, here's their next hike (on Monday) -- the two parks it covers (in Burien) look well mapped, but some trails were recently rebuilt so may have changed.[masked]/[masked]

Darn. I totally want to hit a mapping party but that particular day happens to be my birthday. Can't wait for the next mapping party.

I'm anxious to use the tools I learned about at the bday party. I've done some Wiki reading but would love some hands-on guidance from the experienced folks. Sadly, I have a conflict so will have to figure out how to make this work.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
